15 Easy Cleaning Tips

Covid-19 has found us spending more time at home than ever before & with that comes the relentless cleaning up. However, just because you're cleaning your home more frequently doesn't mean you need to spend more time on it. We are sharing some of our favourite cleaning tips and tricks that will save you time, money, and your sanity in the long run.

1. Restore your dishwasher

Over time, excess food and grime will build up in your dishwasher. Get in the habit of cleaning any remaining bits of foods — beans, pasta, and so on — after each cycle. Pull out the bottom rack to look for any leftover food and remove/ wipe clean with a paper towel to prevent future odors.

 2. Revive cloudy glasses.

Soaking stemware in white vinegar for five minutes can remove built-up film. Finish by rinsing by hand and drying with a microfiber cloth.

3. Clean out candleholders.

Save a pretty container when your candle's spent by rinsing it with steaming hot water and using a paper towel to scoop out the wax residue inside.

4. Use a squeegee to remove hair from your carpet.

Sometimes vacuuming just doesn't cut it, but this cleaning tip will.

Use your trusted bathroom squeegee to scrape over your carpets or rugs to lift up embedded hairs and dust that get pushed down by the vacuum cleaner. Because of the shape, squeegees are also great at removing dirt or dust from the corners of your room.

5. Freshen the shower curtain.

To get rid of moldy spots, throw your plastic curtains in the washing machine with a little detergent. Add a couple of bath towels for extra cleaning agitation, then hang it to dry. To keep it fresher longer, stretch the curtain out after each shower to help moisture dissipate.

6. Make an all-purpose cleaner.

Here's a DIY cleaning recipe that will make nearly every surface sparkle.

Combine 4 tablespoons baking soda and 1 quarter tablespoon of warm water, and wipe messes away with a sponge.

7. Freshen up your garbage disposal with some lemons.

Run a few lemon rinds or oranges through the disposal and follow with cold water to dispel any sour odors.

8. De-grease cabinets.

Just like your cooking tools, cupboards can get greasy and grimy when you're making dinner. Add a little dish soap to a spray bottle with warm water to mist away the grease. Then, rinse with a well-wrung cloth and dry.

9. Freshen up your microwave.

Make grime easier to wipe off by heating a cup of water, several tablespoons of vinegar, and a chopped-up lemon on high until the microwave's window is steamy. Let the bowl sit for 5 minutes before you open the door, and wipe the inside clean with ease.

10.  Make a "right away" laundry bin.

Make a habit of putting dirty uniforms or clothes in a laundry basket right away.

11. Clean dirty jewelry and silver with toothpaste

12.  Freshen musty towels

You can dry musty towels in the sun for about 3 hours. After that, pre-soak with a bleach and water solution (check the care tag to be sure it's safe), and machine wash

13. Use dish detergent to clean your window screens.

Don't have a power washer handy to tackle those grimy window screens? Let us show you how we like to do it, DIY style.
